Five Top Online Masters Degrees in Nursing Programs

An online master's of nursing program can be a viable option for currently-registered nurses who have the practical experience needed to complement the online learning that can be found with some master degree programs. For students who are not currently employed as an LPN or RN, some online programming may not result in completing a degree, making an on-ground component or campus coursework necessary. Students should be sure to check with their school of choice to determine if an online master's of nursing can be completed entirely online or if it may require some in-person attendance.

The list of schools below have been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as having the best graduate-level online nursing programs in 2013 (usnews.com, 2013). The rankings are based on a survey sent to 471 graduate nursing degree programs accredited through either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Among the 280 that replied, 101 said they would be providing an online master's degree in nursing. These, then, are the top 10 of that number to make U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs list:

#1 Ferris State University (Big Rapids, Mich.)

#2 Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas)

#3 University of Michigan, Flint

#4 Clarkson College (Omaha, Neb.)

#5 Graceland University (Independence, Mo.)

Additional rankings above 10 can be found on the U.S. News & World Report website.
