Idaho State University's Graduate Psychology Programs

Idaho has much more to offer than just potatoes. It may surprise you to learn this, but Idaho State University actually has one of the best psychology departments in the United States. Aside from offering an excellent undergraduate program, the university's Department of Psychology also offers two graduate programs in psychology for students who want to deepen their understanding of the field and widen their opportunities to make a career of it.

M.S. in General/Experimental Psychology

ISU's M.S. program trains students in core areas of psychology, including personal/social, learning, perception, cognition, developmental, sensory, and physiological. Because the study in this program is more general, it's well-suited for students with a wide variety of career goals. By completing the M.S. program, students establish a firm foundation for further study in psychology, both basic and applied. The diversity in the coursework provides students with a strong background, which will help them to understand specialized areas of study while also training them to teach other what they've learned. It's also a good opportunity for students who want to narrow their focus to become familiar with many different aspects of the field. And such a program is also a great way to prepare for eventual entrance into a doctoral program, as well.

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology

The Clinical Training Program (CTP) was founded in the late Eighties and approved by the State Board of Education in 1991. Its purpose was to educate empirically-oriented, general practitioners of clinical psychology. Using the scientist-practitioner model of clinical training, the program has produced many fine psychologists and researchers. The program trains psychologists to apply general conceptual and technical skills in a variety of different regional and professional settings. There is an emphasis on methodological and critical thinking skills, course work, research, practical, and professional experiences. Thanks to this balanced approach, graduates of CTP are well-rounded and can adapt their skills to suit a variety of situations.
