University of Rhode Island’s Graduate Psychology Program
Enrolling in a graduate program to achieve an advanced degree in psychology is a large undertaking, and it’s important to choose to study at a school that will both foster your individual interests and challenge you to consider collaboration with other disciplines. The graduate school at the University of Rhode Island is home to one of the top ranked psychology programs in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report. The program at Rhode Island is unique in that it provides opportunities to pursue both a doctoral degree and a terminal master’s degree if that is what’s desired by the student.
M.S. in School Psychology
The demand for competent psychologists in today’s society extends far beyond the traditional adult therapy or industrial counselor boundaries. Increasingly, communities are noticing that children, adolescents, families, and schools are in need of knowledgeable scholars that can combine scientific theory with proven practical applications to help resolve the interaction, personality, and mental health issues that linger within all these environments. The master’s program will prepare students to combine psychological science with modern professional practices to best serve these populations. This program has been accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists.
Ph.D in Behavioral Science
This program is designed to accept students that have already completed their bachelor’s degree in psychology to continue through the Master of Arts, which is completed while in the doctoral program, and on through the completion of the doctoral dissertation. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the well respected faculty in exploring and focusing their own areas of research. Successful graduates of the program have gone on to have careers in academic research teaching, and as evaluation specialists and policy makers in the public sphere.
