University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing:

Master of Science - Nurse Practitioner:

This program is for students who already hold undergraduate nursing degrees or who are RN's in the workforce. The school begins with a core education in the nursing field. Students learn about certain challenges and issues in working with and caring for certain populations. The school also offers a number of internship and clinical research opportunities. Students declare individual areas of concentration and work with faculty advisors to complete independent projects. Students who complete this program become leaders in the nursing profession, and many go on to pursue PhD degrees.

Master of Science - Advanced Public Health Nursing:

This program is for students who already have a strong background in the nursing profession and would like to focus on analyzing, understanding, and researching current issues in public health. Students begin with core educations in the nursing field. Students learn about working closely with certain populations and also working through cross-cultural communication. Students look at health issues and risks in a number of different communities. They also look at health promotion, health administration, and health risks at a number of different communities across the globe. Students choose a particular area of interest and work closely with faculty and in clinical settings to complete independent research projects. Students who complete this program influence policy and the development of health care systems. Students may also go on to pursue PhD degree programs.

PhD in Nursing:

This program is for students who have already completed master degrees in a nursing field and would like to continue advanced study of key nursing issues. Students begin with courses that continue the core nursing education. Most of these courses are taken online. Students participate in a number of online lectures and discussions. Students also engage in independent research projects and may perform internship and field research as well. Students meet on campus at least once a semester for socialization and professional preparation. Students declare an area of expertise and work closely with faculty advisors to complete their PhD dissertations. Students who complete this program often take high-level administrative positions. They also become policymakers and officials who influence health administration and health promotion within a number of different communities, cultures, and for a number of different populations.
