Ranked 26th in the nation overall for social work graduate programs, Indiana University's School of Social Work is located in the metropolitan mecca of Indianapolis. Offering MSW and PhD degree programs in Social Work, IUSSW provides many opportunities for students to study at home or abroad.

Master of Social Work

First year MSW students focus primarily on foundation course such as advanced social work practice, human development, basic helping strategies, and practice in diverse and at-risk communities and populations. Second year MSW students narrow their studies down to their chosen concentration and study such concepts as mediation, solution-focused practice standards, advocacy, and community networking. Field practice is a large part of the final year of the MSW program. The entire program prepares students to be better social workers and to apply more advanced understanding and practice theories.

Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (PhD in Social Work)

Students at the graduate level must meet strict admission requirements for the PhD in Social Work degree program. The program prepares graduates for exciting and challenging careers in research and higher education as they relate to social welfare and social sciences. Students learn to take a scientific, but human approach to sensitive social welfare topics like policies, at-risk programs, practice methodologies, and meeting the needs of culturally diverse populations.
