Indiana University Department of Public Health:
This is considered the premier public health department in the state of Indiana. This department is part of the school of medicine and offers a number of different degrees, diplomas, certifications, and areas of study and concentration. Master of Public Health:
This is a graduate program for students who are interested in studying issues, concepts, and challenges in the public health field. Students choose individual areas of interest. Students then begin a core education in the public health field. Students learn about environmental and community factors that play into health. They study policy, law, and health practice. They earn a greater degree of understanding about certain challenges in today's major health organizations, institutions, and agencies. Students perform community and national internships that allow them to understand the public health profession from firsthand experience. Students work closely with faculty members to complete independent research projects and papers. Students who complete this program become advisors, educators, promoters and policy writers in a number of health contexts. Students may also pursue PhD degrees.
Master of Health Administration:
This is a graduate degree for students who are interested in the administrative aspects of the health profession. Students begin by taking courses that make up a core health education. Students learn about current systems, issues, and concepts in today's major health institutions. They learn to think like members of the health community. Students may choose individual areas of study, which will determine their electives. Students engage in clinical experience which prepares them for real-world health administration practical application. Students also work closely with faculty to complete independent projects and master's thesis papers. Students who successfully complete this program become health managers, staff leaders, trainers and educators.
PhD in Epidemiology:
This is an advanced graduate program for students who already have sufficient academic and professional background in the public health field. Students enter this program having already declared their individual areas of interest. Students then continue with an advanced study of key public health issues and concepts. Students also continue their understanding and application of complex research and information-gathering methods and techniques. Students learn about studying, analyzing, and treating certain populations and communities. Students who complete this program become university researchers and professors. They may also hold important positions in a number of different government and social institutions and agencies. They write and influence public health policy.
