University of Kentucky's Graduate Engineering Programs

UK was established in 1865 and received its current name in 1916. In the 2007-2008 academic school year, almost 26,000 students were enrolled. 23% of current enrollments are graduate students. 700 acres of land house the campus and its 18 colleges and schools. The College of Engineering is where you can locate several degrees of interest to you in your area of study.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering

Two versions of this program are offered. First is one that requires 24 credit hours of coursework plus a 6-credit hour thesis project. The second program option is the completion of 30 credit hours of coursework at the graduate level without a thesis requirement.

Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering

There are no requirements for the number of credit hours you take for this program, and the type of courses you will enroll in depend on your background. In general, a minimum of one year of full-time graduate courses beyond the master's degree will be required before you can even take the qualifying exam to be accepted into the program.

Master of Chemical Engineering

In this program, students are taught how to become a critical thinker, creative researcher and successful member of the field following graduation. Over 60 full-time students are currently taking this program, 90% of who are candidates for a PhD.

University of Louisville's Graduate Engineering Programs

U of L was founded in 1798, making it one of the oldest universities on the west side of the Allegheny Mountains. About 20,500 students attend this university each year and 22% of them are graduate students.

Master of Engineering in Bioengineering

A thesis is required for one track of this degree while a second option does not require it. The core curriculum, no matter which track you choose, consists of classes like Bioinstrumentation, Physiology for Engineers, and Biostatistics.

Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering

PhD students complete more research and coursework at higher levels than any other degree. Courses offered in this program include Advanced Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, and Advanced Reactor Design.

Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Admission requirements include a 2.75 undergraduate GPA, two letters of recommendation and a personal statement. At least nine hours of civil engineering courses and six hours outside of civil engineering at the 600 level are required along with six hours dedicated to the thesis option. This final requirement can be replaced by six additional hours of coursework for the non-thesis option.
