An accredited Master's in Engineering program will usually be found linked to a computer science or computer engineering program, often in a department separate from the university's other engineering disciplines. Electrical engineering has become a study of microelectronics and digital signal processing with many schools offering only a single area of focus that involves traditional studies of power transfer and power grid design. Electrical engineers still work in the energy and construction sectors but most today are finding careers in electronics business opportunities of one sort or another, or in research working closely with computer scientists or software designers.

Colorado Technical University offers the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the school's Colorado Springs campus and as an online degree option. The curriculum is designed to focus on the electronics side of electrical engineering as are many MSEE degree programs today. Course work includes digital design principles, extensive training in the design and use of semiconductors, computer engineering and the theory behind integrated circuits. In addition the degree program touches on project management and the skills required for an oversight role such as budget management, purchasing, scheduling, estimating and the critical path technology used to plan and execute projects today.

University of South Florida has a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree program open to students who have completed a bachelor's degree in the field. The standard course of study includes twenty four credit hours of course work and a six credit thesis to be completed at the end of the program. For students who elect a non-thesis track, the requirement for classroom work is twenty seven credits, with three credits allocate to the completion of a report on a subject agreed upon by student and faculty advisor. Areas of concentration include biomedical systems, wireless and microwaves, communications & signal processing, microelectronics, and energy, power electronics & controls.

Drexel University includes four areas of specialization as options for the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and also offers the degree on a general basis with no area of concentration. The specializations include electrophysics; controls, robotics & intelligent systems; power engineering; and signal & image processing. All programs require forty five credit hours of coursework, a total of fifteen classes. About six of those courses are devoted to the area of concentration or in the case of a general MSEE, to additional electives.

Jackson State University offers a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering through the College of Science, Engineering & Technology. This degree program is designed for working professionals with classes typically taught in the evenings. The college is highly focused on the needs of professionals in the Jackson Metro Area who are seeking an upgraded academic credential and training in advanced practices and theory for electrical engineering, computer engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering and telecommunications engineering. The school programs have structured the Master of Science in Engineering as the basic degree with a specialization in Electrical Engineering as a graduate level option that is business oriented but that may lead to a PhD program as well.
