Masters in Forensic Psychology

A Masters in Forensic Psychology study course will involve courses that blend application of psychological factors into the criminal justice system. The idea behind the selected coursework is to provide psychological testimony in criminal context. To do this, students must study various aspects of the law including basic criminal law, judicial theory, and providing testimony in a court of law. Students also do work in advanced psychology courses such as social psychology, addictive behaviors, patient assessment, and psychopharmacology. Most students pursuing this degree go on to obtain a PhD as well. Those that hold a Masters degree usually work in clinical settings or prisons under the supervision of those that hold PhD's.

Many universities offer Forensic Psychology Masters Programs on both traditional and online campuses. For students that want to get their degree yet balance it with working and family, online programs are attractive options. Many of these programs come at a lower price than those of traditional classrooms. Those universities do not have to maintain large holdings for classes to meet. These classes usually come with more one-on-one time with instructors as well. Using online forums allow students and professors to talk any time of day or night. For many people it is the perfect solution.

Those that hold a Masters level degree usually does not work unsupervised. They often work under the supervision of PhD graduates. They usually do not provide testimony in court. The level of jobs available for those with master’s degrees is limited due to the societal desire for PhD graduates in certain positions. Many of those that obtain master’s degrees work in clinical settings while pursuing their PhD.
