The Jackson State University College of Public Service began offering degree programs through the School of Social Work in 1994. The School's primary goal is to educate students at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level and encourage them to seek employment in social work in urban areas throughout Mississippi.
Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (PhD in Social Work)
Graduate students who are qualified to take a doctorate in Social Work should look forward to an exciting course of professional skills development required for research-based careers and administrative positions in social work. There are many opportunities for qualified graduate students to hone their skills through field practice. Graduate students who want to complete the doctorate will study social policy and practice, mental health, child welfare, research skills and methodology and child welfare. An extensive and broad coursework in community health services, educational research and social work training also awaits those who want to work at their PhD in Social Work.

University of Southern Mississippi Graduate Programs in Social Work
The University of Southern Mississippi offers a wide variety of degree options for students seeking a Masters in Social Work. In celebration of 100 years of academic excellence, Southern Miss nears completion of Century Park Residential Facility for live-in learning. It is the largest dorm complex in university history.
Master's in Psychology
Qualifying grad students in the MSW program at Southern Miss have a variety of options for expected completion time of the masters degree studies. Full time two year programs and three year part time programs are available, as well as advanced standing programs. No matter which program a student chooses, grad students all study human behavior, social welfare policy, social work research, and other subjects relative to cultural diversity, social planning, and community development. Successful complete of degree studies prepares students to enter direct social work practice, or accept advanced positions in community-based practice.
