Jackson State University College of Public Service:

This is the leading college for public service education in the state of Mississippi. The school provides a diverse array of degrees and programs for students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The school offers undergraduate, master, and PhD degrees in a number of different fields and areas of concentration related to the fields of public service. Students are granted access to a number of local and community internship and clinical research opportunities. Students are encouraged to work within the community to complete their studies and give back to the community. Master of Public Health - Health Policy and Management:

This is a graduate program for qualified students who are interested in working in the health field from the perspective of those who manage, write, research, and influence policy. Students begin by declaring individual areas of interest, which will determine the electives they take. Students then begin with core education classes. Students learn about current issues in public health today. They learn about current policy and how it was written. They study popular theories and methods of research and learn about shortcomings and challenges within these methods. Students perform their own research. They take advantage of the community opportunities to perform valuable clinical research. They also use empirical data and case studies to reach conclusions and complete independent projects. Students work with faculty members to decide on practical applications. Students who complete this program are qualified to work as leaders, trainers, and administrators in a number of health policy and health industry contexts. Students may also go on to continue research in PhD degree programs related to their independent fields of study.

PhD in Health Policy and Management:

This is an advanced graduate degree program for students who already have sufficient background in a related field of study. This program is research-based. Students enter the program having already declared individual areas of interest. Students begin by further exploring some of the key concepts, methods, and theories first introduced in the master's program. Students may also take classes in other disciplines and schools, such as math, statistics, sociology, and environmental science. Students will also perform hours of clinical research and master current research methods in the field and in the library. Students work closely with faculty advisors who help them to complete the program and finish their PhD dissertations. Dissertations must be defended before an academic panel. Students who successfully complete this program become researchers and teachers at the university level. They also occupy high-level positions in the government and other public and private institutions.
