Master's in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies - Bilingual Education

Students pursuing a Master of Art in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies may choose from several concentrations to specialize in. These concentrations are American Indian Education, Bilingual Education, Education Thought and Sociocultural Studies, Literacy and Language Arts, Social Studies, and Teaching English as a Second Language. If a student wishes to concentrate in Bilingual Education, topics studied include education of bilingual students, literacy across cultures, issues in Hispanic education, teaching Spanish for bilingual classrooms, and teaching English as a second language.

Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies - Teaching English as a Second Language

Students can also pursue a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language. In this program, students must choose a second language to take classes in. Other courses included in the program include Second Language Literacy, Teaching English as a Second Language, Theoretical Cultural Foundations of Bilingual Education, First and Second Language Development, and Literacy Across Cultures.

Ph.D. in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education

Qualified students can also pursue a Ph.D. in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education. Program of Study includes core courses, concentration courses which will draw from academic areas outside of the College of Education, and a dissertation. Core courses include Curriculum Theory, Foundational Studies, Multicultural Education, Pedagogy in Teacher Education, and Technology and Teacher Education.
