Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering

In the heart of Pittsburgh, this is one of the highest ranked computer engineering programs in the country, ranked at #4 by the US News World and Report and is consistently makes top ten lists for its engineering programs. There are four graduate degree programs currently offered at this campus, including those both at the Master's and Doctorate levels.

Master of Software Engineering

This degree program covers a wide array of topics within the engineering field as it pertains to computers, including software engineering, management, software design and analysis, and a studio project. This is meant to then prepare students to go on either to further graduate studies or take on leadership roles within the industry right out of school.

PhD in Computer Software Engineering

Taking the prior studies a step further is the Doctorate level course in computer software engineering, which draws in students who have the end goal of teaching, senior management, or assuming leadership roles in software development programs. In addition to the regular coursework, students are required to serve as teaching assistants and complete their own research thesis project at the end of the program to be awarded this degree.

That includes specializing in such subjects as Bioengineering, Computer Graphics and Game Design, or Electrical Engineering. These are just a few examples of the courses available at the Graduate level, both in terms of Master's and Doctoral programs.

Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering

Studying all aspects of electrical systems, both in terms of how they operate on a small scale and how to make energy use more efficient for cities, this is an exciting and growing field which has grown to be one of the department's most popular fields of study for engineering students. Electromagnetics, Systems and Control, and Signal Processing are but a few of the courses that students could expect to take, with the program culminating in a thesis project of some kind that will prepare students for further study or a career in this area.

PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

This course is intended for those students who show particular promise in the field in terms of research, so that they may continue their studies and contributions in the field of chemical and biomolecular engineering. Research techniques and support are offered in the academic system to encourage students to use their critical thinking skills and further their knowledge of this constantly developing field.
