Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology

As part of the larger university of Brigham Young University, located in Provo, Utah, this small engineering college has managed to distinguish itself in many ways. That includes the fact that it consistently is ranked in the top 100 schools by US News and World Report, which has led to an increase in the class of faculty who work here. That combined with its picturesque location and wide range of different Master's level and Doctorate programs in the science and engineering fields, is reason enough to investigate.

Master's of Science in Chemical Engineering

A graduate program that gives an overview of all the various facets of chemical engineering, this combines a series of core courses with the freedom to then choose some electives in the same basic field of engineering. Students are then encouraged to take this knowledge and go further with their research, with a final thesis.

PhD in Civil Engineering

Students who have set their sights on potential leadership careers in the field of civil engineering and helping design sustainable systems for our natural resources may be interested in the highly ranked PhD in Civil Engineering Program at BYU. This has been designed to be tailored to a student's interests, and has a heavy research component that lets them work with mentors to find answers to environmental problems.

The University of Utah College of Engineering

As part of the larger and well respected University of Utah, the College of Engineering offers basic courses in various facets of engineering. That ranges from a general engineering course to more specific Master's and graduate certificates in such specialties as Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, and more. Atmospheric studies take in the surrounding Salt Lake City region for paleontological and meteorological studies as well.

Master of Science in Engineering

In this general Master's program, all the various facets of the engineering field are covered, depending on what the student's main interests may include. Courses that are required in the core group include sustainable design, electrical systems and engineering practices, and other facets of engineering that must be covered in order to then proceed to a more complicated final theses project to round out the study program.

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering

Those students that want less of a general overview and more of a tailored approach could then look into other programs such as the MS in Electrical Engineering, which then helps prepare students for the real world with hands-on instruction in software design and development, electrical systems, and how these electrical current types can be controlled in a larger societal setting. The end goal is to prepare the student either for further academic study, or a job out in the electric field.
