The College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is ranked 113th in the United States. The school is dedicated to the practice, application, research and development of Engineering. Because of this, varieties of undergraduate and graduate degrees are available to its students. Here are some programs that interest many students.

Master of Science in Chemical Engineering

In addition to completing core coursework and seminars, students must also present a written and oral research proposal. At the end of the program, students must take a final exam. The exam will cover their core coursework, thesis and/or problem report.

Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Students who enroll in this degree program can take the thesis or non thesis track. Students can take courses that relate to four areas of specializations. Students can take courses in Environmental and Hydroelectrial Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Structural Engineering. In addition, students must take mathematics and mechanical classes. Those who take the thesis track must conduct research and create a thesis or report. Those who choose the non thesis track are not required to create a thesis or report.

Master of Science in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering

Students who enroll in this degree program may choose from five areas of specialization: Systems and Signals, Computer Systems, Electronics and Photonics, Software and Knowledge Engineering and Theory of Computing. Students will take courses geared towards their area of specialization and must minor in one or two other areas of specialization. They must also attend seminars and conduct an independent study.

Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering

Students who enroll in this program will be required to take core courses in Chemistry. They will also have to commit to a minor. Before entering in the program, students will have to pass a qualifying exam. Within a year students must develop and defend an original dissertation

Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Students who enroll in this degree program must complete core courses related to their area of specialization. In addition, they must conduct original research to create an original dissertation.

Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering

Students who enroll in this degree program must complete a plan of study and pass a qualifying exam. Once they pass the exam, students will choose an area of specialization. They can specialize in Systems and Signals, Computer Systems, Electronics and Photonics, Software and Knowledge Engineering and Theory of Computing. Courses will be geared towards their area of specialization. They must also complete a Candidacy Exam and conduct an Oral Defense.
