Students may also have to take a number of classes from other disciplines, colleges and departments, depending on the declared areas of study. Student may also take classes in leadership and administration that will prepare them for real world contexts. Students who complete this program may also apply to PhD degree programs.
PhD in Counseling:
This program is for students who would like to further explore and research key concepts in the field of counseling. This is a research-based program that is taken online, though students will have to travel to participate in professional meetings, seminars, interview, and clinical study. Students will also have to take classes that are outside of the education or counseling fields. Students may take classes in a number of other disciplines in order to better understand key issues in the school counseling field. Students may take classes in sociology, economics, or psychology. Students in this program declare an area of expertise and work closely with faculty advisors who help them to complete their PhD dissertations. The graduate students present and defend their dissertations before an academic panel.
