University of Wisconsin - Madison's Graduate Public Health Programs

Master of Public Health

Qualified graduate students can pursue a Master of Public Health with an emphasis on concepts and methods related to public health that target students and health professionals. The different concepts studied in this comprehensive program include promoting health behaviors, preventing injury, preventing epidemics and diseases from spreading, protection from environmental dangers, health service accessibility and quality, and disaster and recovery assistance response.

Master's in Population Health

Graduate students pursuing a Master's in Population Health can concentrate in health services research, epidemiology, clinical research, and social and behavioral health sciences. Core coursework towards this Master's degree for each concentration includes biology, epidemiology, social and behavioral sciences, and population-based health service constructs. Aside from these core classes, each concentration requires additional specialized coursework as well as collaboration in research.

Ph.D. in Population Health

Graduate students can also pursue a Ph.D. in Population Health with concentrations in clinical research, health services research, epidemiology, and social and behavioral health sciences. This degree is more rigorous and research-intensive than the Master's in Population Health. However, the Ph.D. and Master's degree programs have similar aims achieved through similar types of coursework.
